I received my DGT Centaur two days ago and I am hooked.The board is a good size (1.9 inch squares) and is very light and thin, which makes it extremely easy to move and use just about anywhere.The plastic pieces are heavier than I expected and feel good in the hand. The piece designs are easy to recognize, with well differentiated silhouettes. The pieces feel good to move, either by lifting or sliding.

I received my DGT Centaur a week ago and it was very easy to set up. I love the full size board. I am working very hard at relearning chess. The only problem that occurs is that sometimes I do not place the pieces correctly. Centaur has no way of knowing that I have mixed up placing the king and queen for example. But when I discover my mistakes, I just place them correctly. I frequently use the small chess board on the unit to confirm that my big board matches with the Centaur.

I have programs that a stronger players. This computer is so much better than I am. It does adjust to my level of play and that makes it not so discouraging. It is a great tool to improve your chess play.

DGT did their homework when designing this stand alone chess computer . Right out of the box you`re ready to go . No need for a modem , wifi or internet connection ! You could pay more , but you will not get much from another manufacturer . The menus are simple and straight forward . The world famous Stockfish program is included . Have Fun !

Got it yesterday and have played two games. Both very enjoyable. Lost by a move once and tied after five repetitive moves once (something I was unaware of). That’s not bad, I feel I’m in the game and am not overwhelmed. I’m not a great player but I know how to play. I doubt I can beat it but so far as reasonable competition I think that claim is sound. Board is light, seemingly fragile but thus far works perfectly and looks good. Pieces are nice enough…however a speck of dirt on the base will cause recognition problems so be mindful of that. Gameplay is seamless. Take it out of the box, set up the pieces, turn it on and make your first move. The little display will grade you too which is cool. Overall very satisfied.

I really like the fact, you don’t need to download or mess with a smart phone with this chess computer. Also can allow two players to play a game in analysis mode with hints if you want that feature. You can also set up chess problems too. It can beat most players with an estimated ELO rating of up to 3000! Another neat thing is you can use your own pieces, providing you use metalic silver stickers or aluminum foil on the bottom of each piece!! With a brand like DGT your getting exceptional quality chess computer!

So far so good. I had a little trouble at first recording my first move, but no big deal. The size of the board and the pieces is perfect. It IS like playing a person. I’m rusty at chess and still on my first game. But no complaints.

I have owned the Centaur for several weeks now and have played dozens of games in both “friendly” and “challenging” modes. I am very impressed by this machine. With the simple trick of choosing moves whose analysis scores are slightly worse or slightly better than its opponent, the computer adjusts its level of play in a manner that provides a very enjoyable game.
